The course involves physical activities including chest compressions, which require kneeling and upper-body effort. If you are unable to participate in any element, please speak to the Course Director — alternative arrangements can usually be made.

Arrive at the Medical School atrium. You will be met by a member of the student faculty. Scan the QR code at the registration desk using your personal link — this records your arrival and opens your timetable automatically.

On Saturday morning, before the 11:45 break, every participant must demonstrate competent Basic Life Support to a full instructor in their small group. This is a checkpoint you must pass to proceed to the rest of the course — you need to show you can perform competent BLS. If you don't yet meet the standard, your instructor will work with you to consolidate your skills before you continue.

Your participation, engagement, and development across the weekend are observed by faculty throughout. There is no written exam. For instructor candidates, the focus is on your teaching technique, ability to give feedback, and your clinical knowledge of BLS. Faculty meet at the end of the course to discuss outcomes. You will receive individual feedback if any concerns are raised.

Please contact the Course Director as early as possible. Attendance across the full weekend is expected. If you need to leave early or arrive late due to an emergency, this should be communicated directly to Prof Jon Hulme.

Phones should be on silent during all sessions. Using this platform on your phone (for the timetable, materials, and feedback) is encouraged. Photography and audio recording of sessions is not permitted without prior agreement from the session lead.
