Our Network

RMD UK is a collegiate national community, not a centralised body. Four sites are live, with a fifth in development.

Live

RMD: Resuscitation | Mentorship | Development was established in 1995 by three medical students at the University of Birmingham to provide Basic Life Support training to healthcare students through a near-peer, interdisciplinary programme.

Now overseen by a senior faculty of clinical and non-clinical staff — including one of the founders, Prof Jon Hulme — and run by a student faculty of healthcare undergraduates, this near-peer course is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Cited by the General Medical Council (GMC) as an innovative teaching method and endorsed by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.

Each year, RMD Birmingham teaches over 1,000 candidates from eight different courses at UoB, with a team of 65 BLS instructors and 20 assessors. The community arm, MiLE, delivers BLS training across Birmingham and beyond.

"Joining RMD UK allowed access to a group of experienced resuscitationists and experts who had already set up numerous life support courses previously; they anticipate and navigate otherwise unforeseen challenges, which was invaluable."
