Is your institution interested in joining RMD UK?

What the network offers, what it doesn't, and how to get in touch.

RMD UK is a network, not a content licence

ERC and Resuscitation Council UK BLS course materials are openly available to any institution, with or without RMD UK — and RCUK is developing its own large-scale near-peer materials as part of its national BLS strategy. Joining RMD UK does not give you access to teaching content you couldn't otherwise get.

The development within RCUK is driven by the leads from the original parent RMD sites working with RCUK staff — a genuine collaboration, not a parallel track.

Resources specifically for large organisational BLS schemes are being developed to enable this.

What it does give you is a working relationship with sites who have already run near-peer BLS programmes for years, or decades: people who can tell you what actually works when you're setting up instructor training, recruiting assessors, or building a faculty structure from nothing.

Network value, in practice

Membership is free and voluntary, open to Higher Education Institutions with an active or developing near-peer BLS programme.

🤝
A national peer network

Connect with sites across the UK that understand near-peer BLS delivery and can talk through real problems, not theoretical ones.

🏗
Help setting up the development pathway

Existing sites can advise on structuring candidate → instructor → assessor → senior faculty progression, which is harder to design than to run.

📈
Direct mentorship, not just documents

Starting a near-peer BLS scheme from scratch is challenging. Sites can provide practical advice to help you avoid common pitfalls.

🔍
Research and shared standards

Contribute to and benefit from cross-site work on near-peer teaching and BLS outcomes, coordinated through the network tier.

Running independently instead?

That's a reasonable option — ERC and RCUK materials are open to everyone. RMD UK is for institutions who'd rather not work it out alone.

A framework for expansion

RMD UK is working with the Resuscitation Council UK on a formal framework for new sites joining the network, following the 2026 adoption of the near-peer model into RCUK's BLS portfolio. This is about consistency of standards and quality assurance, not exclusivity. Enquiries made now will be considered as part of this process.
